Ragnarok Online

June 19, 2007

Is it me or is it impossible to find a decent Ragnarok Online free server?

I’ve been playing this game on and off since Beta Testing (I know that’s been a long time) but to be fair I haven’t really properly played “hardcore” till about three months ago when I got onto a free High Rate Server and was a Gypsy in two days. The original RO took me WEEKS just to get to ALMOST being a dancer. I have to say I like the fact I can now play on High Rate Servers where my levels literrally fly by and I’m a 2:2 transcended job level before you know it. Iplayed High Level for a month or so but the thing about High Level is that while you level up faster then a /b/tard cumming there is no real joy in it. So I went on the hunt for a decent mid-rate Server which had nice people in it and where I would feel like I was part of a Gaming Community

I stumbled across Underworld RO which my friend Jess plays on. It doesn’t have many people on it (I think the most I’ve seen on the server ever is about 80) but it was friendly enough and fun which is what I wanted. I joined a guild, who have their own Vent Chat so I was able to talk to people and make some friends. My main character is a Dancer called Nayuki, so I am now reffered too as Nay. For someone who has been playing RO since she was about 17 I can’t believe how much of a Newb I am. This is what I have learnt from this server. I have no idea what any of the monsters are called, have no idea where to find the best monsters to level, have no idea about stats and no idea about MVP’s or monster cards. I am clueless and it really shows.

Juniper:”OH HOLY HELL THIS THING KILLED ME”

Guildy:”What thing?”

Juniper:”The big furry Blue bug”

*Guildy laughs and says actual name of monster*

Seriously thats how a lot of what I say goes. I finally got my Dancer to level 85 the other day, and now the rest of they guys are all near 100 so when I go kill MVPs with them (which I can finally do) I don’t do much damage. I have to say though that Underworld RO is the closest I have got to a proper online gaming experience. Where I go on and make friends rather than just starting a new MMORPG with all my existing friends. Its nicer to play with people and chaton Vent then solo on your own (:

I can see why Konata from Lucky Star digs MMO’s so much.

Why The Japanese PWN All Western Cosplayers

June 15, 2007

You think you can dance the Hare Hare Yukai Dance from Haruhi? Really? You do? Well I bet you can’t do it aswell as these guys can… Face it. They PWN YOU ALL.

You can’t do these things like the Japanese can. LOOK AT THEIR DANCE! THEY ADDED BITS! THEY CLAP! You guys just faff around in the bits where there was nothing tell you to dance. Look at the enthusiasm as they stamp their feet and wave their arms and how they managed to get a million Mikurus to do that bit without hitting each other in the face. Oh Japanese Cosplayers. I take my hat off to you because you do PWN us all.

Blast from the past.

June 14, 2007

I made a fantastic discovery the other day. We had been discussing them fondly in work, you see, and it led me to wonder what had happened to mine. I was sure I still had it. My NES and Super NES were both long gone, I knew, but surely I wouldn’t have gotten rid of this? A look on top of my wardrobe revealed the padded black case that had been a permanent fixture slung over my shoulder all those years ago. I took it down, blew an impressive amount of dust off the top (almost triggering off an asthma attack in the process) and, with some reverence, opened the case to reveal my prize.

My old, original Nintendo Game Boy.

Naturally, hand-held games consoles have advanced a staggering amount since the days of yore. Just look at the PSP – it’s a brilliant piece of technology. The first time I picked one up I was amazed at the quality of the graphics and sound, even more amazed at the quality of the video playback, and genuinely liked the look of the console itself. Very stylish. Throw in Wi-Fi as well and as I said, you’ve got a fantastic piece of technology in your hands. And it’s only going to get more advanced – there are rumours of a slimmer, lighter PSP coming out that is getting rid of its optical drive completely (something I’m sure all the people who’ve been buying UMD films will just love) in favour of flash memory and games downloads. Unfortunately though, as a games console, the PSP utterly fails. Why? Because essentially it’s a PS2 you can carry around, and PS2 games need analogue controls. Which the PSP doesn’t have. Can you imagine it with two analogue sticks incorporated into it? It would be impossible to hold and play comfortably, which I imagine is the reason why Sony left them out in the first place. And so PSP versions of games designed for the PS2 are utterly terrible to play, because they’re just not designed with the faithful D-Pad in mind. And this is why the DS Lite works. Yes it has a touch-screen interface and many of its games are designed around that, but it also has the core principle that made the original Game Boy so great - simple games that utilise simple controls.

I’m not sure what it is, but there’s something about my Game Boy that just feels right. It’s big, but the shape and size of it feel right in my hands. It’s heavy by today’s standards but it feels sturdy. The controls are in just the right places. Maybe it’s these things, or maybe it’s the other little endearing details as well: the rubbery, best-feeling start and select buttons ever; the monochrome screen that you have to tilt to find just the right angle to see it properly; the “stereo sound” logo above the screen that for some reason isn’t centred; the audible buzz from the batteries when you first turn it on; that classic little “ding” sound as the Nintendo logo drops down. But most of all, it has Tetris. The classic, Game Boy version of Tetris is probably in the top ten list of most hardcore gamers favourite games ever, and for good reason. Tetris defines what the Game Boy is all about: a simple concept, easy to control, terrific fun and fiendishly addictive. When I’d popped some fresh batteries into my GB and switched it on (to my delight, it still worked) I thought I’d have a quick go for nostalgia’s sake. Twenty minutes later I’m on level 8 with 86 lines, utterly absorbed. God knows how many hours I spent as a kid staring at that tiny screen, frantically rotating the blocks trying to score a four-line Tetris just so I could hear the crazy sound-effect you get when it happens. There are very few games that can claim to be as addictive as Tetris. Pokemon Red is one of them, which I also owned (and I made MewTwo my bitch, mwa ha ha).

So I’m sorry. As big a fan of technology as I am, when it comes to hand-held consoles I’m rooted firmly in the past. You can take your colour screens and next-gen visuals and your Wi-Fi multiplayer connectivity. I’ll take my old Game Boy and Tetris every time. Now, who’s got a link cable?

Yaoi Fangirls: Daughters of Satan

June 14, 2007

“Beware of yaoi fangirl groups. If one happens to enter the vicinity of a yaoi fangirl, and one is a relatively cute looking guy, run. Run very far, and very fast. Do not look back. Do not mention certain shows with disdain around them. One will be clawed, or at the very least, never seen from again. Examples of these shows would be, Weiß kreuz, Saiyuki, and Inu Yasha. (Don’t ask me about the last one, I have no idea why either).”

-from The Uraban Dictionary

I have a dislike of Yaoi and Yaoi Fan girls. Don’t get me wrong if an Anime is meant to be Yaoi related I have no problem with it. I rate Loveless as a very good anime and really enjoyed it what I hate is the fact that fan girls everywhere seem to want to ruin perfectly good Animes by spouting loads of goddamn Yaoi fan fiction, fan art and other stuff. So we end up with an abundance of Light and L stuff with them getting it on or every member of the cast of Ouran Host High School having an Orgy. I don’t understand why people have to take a perfectly good anime and make all its characters gay for each other.  What really gets me also is when they get annoyed when the characters get involved with girls within the actual Manga or Anime that they are absorbed in, they cry and find it offensive and long for the lead boy to get with that other hot looking boy who resembles a girl. Examples?

Take Final Fantasy.  My friend is obsessed with Yaoi, Final Fantasy Yaoi. I always though Cloud and Tifa were a meant to be couple and had some art on my computer of them together. I thought it was cute and saved it. I saw nothing wrong in my actions, I don’t think anyone else would see anything wrong in my actions but my friend FREAKED out. She shouted at me declaring that Cloud and Tifa are WRONG and Cloud should not be with a woman. She said the images disgusted her and the whole CloudxTifa thing disgusted her and tried to delete the images from my computer.

Seriously… WHAT THE HELL?! See this is what I dislike about hardcore Yaoi fan girls, if you even slightly disagree with them they try and claw at you and dismantle you. Is the love of two fictional boys really worth clawing someone to death over? You don’t have to enforce your views on all the anime public, we don’t dislike Yaoi because we are all homophobic assholes, we dislike Yaoi because we all fear the hardcore, fat ass Yaoi fan girl either killing us for not supporting her union between  Light and L or whoever else you feel like pairing off.

Yaoi Fan Girls are MEAN. Don’t think because they squeal “KAWAIIII” at stuff and Glomp that they are nice girls. They are violent and oppressive and want us all to love Yaoi.

The Bastards.

Apple WWDC 2007

June 11, 2007

Oh hey guys, don’t know if you know or not but today is Apple’s WWDC ‘07.

If your a geek like me than you’re pretty excited right now. Try not to wet your pants.

For those of you who are not familiar, Apple usually likes to reveal lots (by lots I mean like..2 or 3) of goodies at its WWDC.

So here is a list of 7 Predictions from the AppleGazette.com of things we could or could not be seeing today!

1 - Multi-Touch in Leopard - Leopard is going to be the main focus of WWDC this year, and I think one of the big surprises left in Leopard is the inclusion of the iPhone’s Multi-touch navigation. Now, I’m not saying that Apple is going to abandon the mouse at WWDC. Far from it, but I think Multi-touch will be included in the OS, and there will be some products there that support it.

2 - New GUI for OS X - We all know that the Aqua interface, while still quite nice, is getting a little long in the tooth. At WWDC expect the next generation GUI to be another secret of Leopard.

3 - New iLife w/iTunes HD - The new versions of iLife will be revealed with Leopard - possibly even as a part of Leopard itself, and will all feature HD support…including HD downloads from iTunes.

4 - Blu-Ray Support - Blu-Ray support and playback in Leopard, and Blu-Ray drive options on all higher end Macs.

5 - Leopard/iPhone integration - I don’t think we’ll be seeing too much about the iPhone at WWDC this year, but we will see how extensive the integration with Leopard is…and I expect it will be very much a part of Leopard. I don’t think it’s a co-incidence that WWDC is happening before the iPhone even comes out.

6 - New Mac Minis and Macbook Pros - With the recent update of the Macbooks, the Macbook Pros are in desperate need of CPU upgrade, and the Mac Minis are due as well. I expect to see new version of both products at WWDC if not before… ( I doubt this one a lot since we just got a Macbook Pro upgrade..)

Ultra Portable iMac w/Multi touch screen - I don’t believe we’ll ever see an Apple tablet (made by Apple at least) but I think the time is right for a device like that to premiere. The UPiMac wouldn’t be much different than the current iMac…just thinner, lighter, and attached to a removable dock when on the desktop…but it would be portable for taking around the house to use where ever you wanted - freeing you from the confines of the desk, and giving you the freedom to use Multi-touch for a completely new UMPC experience. (this one I hope for the most *__*)

So there you have it Mac fans! …and non-mac fans :/

Here are my predictions!

1. Steve Jobs will wear jeans and a black turtle neck !! SEE IF IM WRONG I DARE YOU.
