So the news going around is that Lucky Star has be licensed by Bandai. *cringe* Is it me or does Lucky Star just not seem the type of Anime that is going to dub over very well? I mean I loved Lucky Star, it was one of those things you either love or hate really, but what made it so great and so funny were all the ties in to Japanese Culture and Cosplay and Anime culture in Japan. I am a bit of a Anti-Dub person and I think if they start messing with it so it relates to an American audience that it may lose some of what makes it special. I think its also really bad that they are saying “IF YOU LIKED HARUHI YOU’LL LOVE THIS” I mean I know there are lots of links to Haruhi in Lucky Star and Aya Hirano is the voice of Konata and Haruhi and the guy who produced Haruhi produces this (or directed, or wrote I can’t remember which one) but it doesn’t mean if you like Haruhi you’ll like Lucky Star.
I liked Lucky Star because for one thing I liked the characters. I know a lot of people didn’t think the character development was very good but if you stuck with it for a few episodes you did end up having favourites no matter what. I’m not a huge Konata fangirl but I loved the fact she represented how a lot of hardcore Anime/Gamers are. They do like to play their MMO’s religiously and they are sat ready and waiting to watch the latest episode of their Animes. Another thing is Konatas Pervy Father is going to have to be changed in the American version right? But he was so funny and it will be such a shame to lose his Pervyness! I agree with the post on DarkMirage where they state the Otaku jokes in Lucky Star are a bit hardcore and a lot of fans may not get them. You have to be pretty into Anime to download it when it’s out in Japan and keep up with it every week and chances are that you do this every season with lots of Anime, but for those who just watch Dubs on TV… they ain’t gonna get Lucky Star.
Though maybe I am just being a total weeaboo about it all and I should just accept that Lucky Star was a popular Anime and like a lot of popular Animes it was bound to get licensed and stuff. I’m not going to watch the dub… because lets face it after the Haruhi dub I steer clear.
I’m sure this is old news to some of you but I only discovered the Zombie Dancers a few days ago so it will be NEW NEWS to some people so lay off (: I love the Zombie Dancers. I have seen enough Hare Hare Yukais and Lucky Star dances now and they all seem to be the same. So it was nice to see people doing the dance but messing around too, or even when they were doing it properly adding their own style to it. So Props go out to the Zombie dancers. May you dance many more Anime Dances.

So Lovely Complex has Finished and I am once again left with a Gaping hole in my Anime watching. I adored Lovely Complex not just because of the fact in was a Romantic Comedy Anime that focused on so much more than most Romantic Comedy Animes do (its jokes weren;t all about boys falling/groping girls boobs then getting hit for one thing) but the characters were just fantastic. They drew you in and kept you hooked.
Risa was the leading lady. A tall high school girl with a very strange personality. You start off thinking she may be shy or something and then you see some of the weird faces she pulls and forget that fact that she is actually a pretty girl! Otani at the start is annoyingly slow but by the end you can see why Risa isn’t giving up on him. He is sweet and a great guy and seriously if I ever find me and Otani IRL I am keeping him. The supporting cast were just as great! Nobu and Naoko getting the prize for best supporting charcters by far. They were in this sickeningly sweet relationship and are so much in love but provide such funny comments on Otani and Risa at just the right moments. Chiharu going all Kaede from Shuffle?! mental on Suzuki is another great moment to watch as the supporting cast get to work. Not to mention Haruka (Risa’s old schoolfriend) Maity-Sensei (hot teacher) and Suzuki dressing up as Naokos harem to get him out of some trouble. That was hilarious.
Lovely Complex is a refreshing take on the High School Romance Genre of Anime and is just one of those Animes you will watch over and over again because it is just so good. You are left hanging about Otani and Risa all the way through as new troubles are presented and things occur. The characters are loveable and fun. I don’t know if you could seriously relate any realtionships you’ve had to any of them but it’s a good way of escapism if you can’t!
So what can I fill my Sunday Nights with now? I hear Clannad calling me!
So what have I learned from moves/anime/tv about love?
Well the one thing they all seem to have in common is when somoene in them is in Love they don’t give up. They just keep trying and trying till the get the guy/girl they are after. Take Risa in Lovely Complex. She doesn’t give up on Otani even though he rejects her twice. She just says she’s gonna try harder and try her best till he likes her. Then the dudes from Mallrats (I just watched it xD Sorry). They get dumped but in the end win their girlfriends back because they were both in Love and determined. Essentially what I have learned from movies/tv/anime about Love is it’s not that hard work, just you have to stick with it.
Problems are always overcome too. Carrie and Big went through this huge, weird relationship but ended up together because Big finally realised he loved Carrie and went to go get her. Ross and Rachel were destined to be together and how does Friends End? What’s its big finally? Ross and Rachel actually getting back together and being a family with their baby. They all seem to magically overcome their problems and the messed up pasts to just be happy and get on with things. Again Love is Easy, as long as you love him/her you will end up with him/her.
BULL-FUCKING-SHIT.
What have I learnt about love from Real Life?
Oh let us see *laughs* I am not a cynic. I do not think love is a joke or fake. I know love is real it’s just not so easy to say “I love so and so and therefore I am going to try my hardest to get them” Why is it not so easy to do that? Because there is this thing called being Desperate which all these films and tvshows and Animes seem to overlook. Rise is desperate and had that been real life Otani would have thought she was weird and clingy and kept hell away from her. You are conditioned into thinking that falling in love is easy. You like someone and they are bound to like you back but the truth is a lot harsher.
I know realtionships are hard work. I know things don’t instantly click into place and as cliche as it sounds I know the best things are the ones you work hardest for and fight for, but just for once I would like everything to fall into place. I think everyone has the right for things to go easy just once in life because to be honest I think it would be nice if everyone got to get love easy for once in their lives. Even if it’s not the love of your life you get wouldn’t it be nice to not have to work so hard at it? Of course I say this and I know that, as I said before, the best things are those you have to work for.
What is the point of this post?
I am unsure.
I just think that Love is harder than it seems.
Oh Hirano Aya is there anything you can’t do? You’re gorgeous, you are a talented and amazingvoice actress, you sing, you dance, you play the guitar and you are the cutest thing alive. Besides you ARE Haruhi, my Anime Idol. Can you get any more prefect? I know you may think Hirano Aya is overrated, she has been on everything recently right? But I think she’s amazing (: and Very talented. And so gorgeous! You can’t fault her looks. So when her new Photo Book and single came out I was there sniffing out images and getting mp3’s. I thought I would share…

I’m sorry, so so so very sorry. I haven’t blogged in ages (the vast majority probably didn’t even notice, in which case I’m not sorry at all). It took me ages to think about what I should blog about, thought long and hard, even bopped myself on the head to get me to think properly. Then it occurred to me that I’m now out of practice with writing because I’ve been so busy with uni stuff. Interesting uni stuff may I add. I recently co-founded a anime society. You would think that would be the first thing I would to think to write about, buuuuuttttt no. It took a good half an hr, several bops to the head, 4 phone calls to distract myself and a cup of tea to finally tap into the genius-ness I posses. I could write about that!!! *light bulb flickers on ouran style*
I am now the treasurer of an anime society at uni! Now to protect privacy I will not be referring to people by their real names. For example, liam; our sectary, will now be referred to as Mr X. The first thing that strikes me, running an anime society is how knackering it is, running around, trying to get things sorted on time. The second thing is, how nothing brings out the geek in people more than the prospect of joining an anime society. There I was, behind my desk at freshers fair and suddenly I was hit by screams from both fangirls and fanboyd alike. I found it so odd that the majority of people signing up for our club was totally normal looking people! Sorry if that offends people, but lets face it there is a anime fan stereotype. Usually they are wearing an item of clothing signifying their love for all things anime/sci-fi or they are skulking somewhere in the back puffing on their inhaler as being out in the daylight has brought on a bad reaction. None of that, nice normal people with no allergies to groups of people or daylight. From my little view behind my desk I chatted to many students that were so happy to found a home at this new and scary place called university. One was so happy he came back several times armed with anime and glomped all the committee members for making his year.
Even our first meeting was a success. Many people turned up and all were eager to get chatting about anime and make friends. We had a quiz then went to the pub. I even heard that a few got rather quite drunk after I had left, even Mr X (see I didn’t mention Liam’s name at all!). All in all a 100% success. My only regret is that I won’t be round to see these wide eyed fans to go through uni making friends as its my last year *sob*. At least I can now say I made my mark at uni. I can’t wait till our next meeting……. Its a beautiful thing.
