This was put to me the other day and it got me thinking because in a lot of ways it’s true! I wouldn’t say Geek Girls on a whole are more perverted and horny than Hot Girls (I know Hot Girls is an AWFUL way of generalizing them but I mean those popular, cheerleadery types you see in teen American Shows xD) but I think Anime Loving Girls are. As I said in my last post, if you’re an Anime Loving Girl you are exposed to SO MUCH sex. It’s true! Because a lot of Anime is filled with sexual tension, innuendo and plain outright fanservice. We are used to sex. So is the above statement true? Are we what the horny boys should be going for? Let’s try and figure this out!
Let’s start with the fact Anime Loving Girls love their Cosplay. It’s true you know, we do, and most Cosplay outfits are based on Women in Anime who are amazingly Sexy. Look at the girl Above who is Cosplaying as the Wicked Sexy Misa-Chan from Death Note. She looks AMAZING. That’s the thing about Cosplay, it makes Anime Loving Girls not afraid to dress sexy and show a bit of skin. Even if they are doing BAD COSPLAY they still aren’t afraid. This makes them more confident in themselves and they feel sexy. Therefore Roleplay isn’t something that would scare an Anime-Loving Girl away. I think Role Play is something the Anime Loving Girl would be at her element in rather than the Hot Girl who may call you a freak and never want to touch you. So we have learned that Cosplay makes Anime Loving Girls not afraid of dressing up and not afraid of looking sexy. Hence why you should go for them more than the Hot Girl.
All Anime Loving Girls have an Image Stash and a lot of that Image Stash is ECCHI ECCHI ECCHI! As I said we are decensitized to it so we don’t actually see it as boobies and asses, we see the images as cool Anime pictures. So if you are one of those boys (I mean like EVERY BOY) who watches a bit of the old Pron or perhaps even some Hentai a Anime Loving Girl is more likely to sit down and watch it with you and get excited with you than chew you out about it and make you promise to never do it again. It would be hypocritical of her to say that you couldn’t have magazines hidden under the bed when she has an Ecchi stash hidden away on her computer. A few people I know have even said they hide their Yaoi and Echhi Mangas from their boyfriends rather than their boyfriends hiding their Pron from them. Anime Loving Girls are just as perverted and Echhi as any normal boy. Which I think is more refreshing then having girls squeal at you in dissaproval and make you throw ally our magazines away! The average Anime Loving Girl will make you feel comfortable and probably make the first move too because of all this xD Just don’t be scared by her love of Yaoi, if she is a Yaoi Fangirl that is, accept it and move on!
Because of these two main factors you will find that Anime Loving Girls are more open and more experimental than Hot Girls. Where Hot Girls will scream No and call you weird Anime Loving Girls will probably join in and make things hotter. So why don’t men (who are looking for some hot girls xD) realise this? Because they assume Anime Loving Girls are geekis and what is the sterotypical image of a Geek? Someone who sits along in their room all day, doesn’t have many friends and obsesses over episodes of Star Trek. Also that Geek Girls are not hot. Both of these are completely untrue and perhaps it is the Mans fault he is missing out on the great action that is the Anime Loving Geek Girl. No doubt if he got himself one of those girls and treated her good he’d be getting the best loving of his life.
I am a girl and I have a substantial image folder full of Anime girls. I have never been able to explain why this is, it’s hardly to do with my Sexuality, I can say quite easily I find girls IRL sexy but I don’t have a big folder full of them in bikinis or echhi of them. I have some good stock images of my fav hot celebs for use in layouts and such but that’s hardly new. It’s this huge folder of Ecchi girls that always makes me think. If Anime debases women so much and makes them into objects to be lusted after with huge breasts and perfect bodies and bukkake then why do I, and most girls into Anime, find them just as great as the fanboys?
Women are objects of desire in some Anime (not all Anime. Its a huge form of media so I shall not restrict it all here). I mean you can look at some characters and they have full breasts and amazing figures and look hot. There are endless fanservice shots of them in their underwear or closeups of their asses. But usually a hot anime girl comes with a firey, headstrong attitude. It is very rare to see her give in to a man or lose herself around one. It is more likely to see her punch his lights out or hit him. Strong and Sexy, surely thats a great thing to be? Christina Aguilera, The Spice Girls, Beyonce.. they all are strong and Sexy. They are also all objects of desire for men and sell more records/get more publicity because of it. I don’t know. Does that make up for the fact they are obviously there to turn the male viewer on. I don’t know. But the fact it gets the female fan saving images of them and watching the Animes and rooting for them or hating them is always good.
Anime girls are hot. I’m not losing myself in this by the way, I also know they are NOT REAL. *laughs* It’s always sad to see someone who is watching Anime Girls more than Real Girls and fails to have another half because noone in Real Life actually looks like BellDandy. But you get drawn in by an amazing anime style picture thats really well drawn, really well coloured in and just looks amazing. Its a fact. So me, assuming I am the standard anime fan, having a folder full of images that I think are amazing (a lot of them Ecchi xD) is hardly surprising. I used to say that Anime fans tend to have a lax view on Sex and stuff since you are exposed to so much of it in Anime that you just don’t realise it’s there anymore. So all these images I have I don’t see as being Ecchi, or racy I just see them as awesome Anime images to add to my collection.
Perhaps it’s also the fact that Anime women are like… not like normal women. I mean they are like Normal Women obviously but they are also Cat-Girls, Fox-Girls, Bunny-Girls, Elves, Witches, Fairies, Magical School Girls, Girls with Huge Guns… All these things that are interested to watch and things we try and emulate through Cosplay. I know girls that wear Cat Ears and Cat Tails now as part of their daily wear and feel weird if they don’t have them on because they love CatGirls so much. I think that girls love to Cosplay as Sailor Moon, who wouldn’t want to be a hot, magical girl who kicks ass? They may not be the best figures to look up to sure, but you know they are pretty damn cool. I like that anyway, the fantastical and the unreal. Makes things more interesting. Also the people who draw girls like this well make some captivating art that you can’t help but save or buy in poster form to stick on your wall!
I think Women in Anime are misunderstood, but I’m not going to get into that subject here. I don’t think they are treated any differently than they are in any other. They show off their lady lumps in Film, Music, on TV so Anime is no different but I find it funny that it is seen as such a big deal in Anime. That if you say to someone you like Anime they immediately think of some obscure Hentai that was no doubt created in their imaginations with aliens and every hole being filled. If people got over this misconception and actually sat down and watched some Anime without prejudging it then they would love it I reckon. Even the Ecchi High School Comedys (because let’s face it WE ALL have a weakness for them).

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because I dislike reading about Anime. I love reading about Anime, hell I wrote my dissertation on Anime and the representation of Gender and Sexuality in Anime. I have books on Anime theory (from when I was writing my dissertation) and read Anime blogs. HELL THIS IS AN ANIME BLOG. But Anime Magazines just seem to be behind the times. They are expensive and noone wants to read about series released a year or more ago that have just got their way onto DVD now. Seriously it’s just common sense.
The majority of Anime fans download their anime. That’s why so many subbing groups exist. We do not want to wait ages for us to watch a mere selection of the Anime availiable in Japan. We want to be able to watch whatever we want when we want to do so. So god bless bittorrent and sites like Boxtorrents and Animesuki who provide us with Anime as it happens. I am currently watching Lucky Star, Lovely Complex and School Days. All airing in Japan and I download a new episode once a week as they come. No matter how you feel about downloading you can’t deny that Anime needs things like bittorrent to help it along. The fans would get so bored had they not had the ability to download things as and when the air in Japan and to have the ability to watch the brand new seasons Anime and the old Animes from seasons gone!
Today I picked up Total Anime, its on it’s second issue so it’s still pretty new. I’ve read most of the other Anime magazines availiable to me already such as Newtype and Neo. Newtype is full of Gundam stuff, everytime I buy it it’s telling me about Gundam. I hate Gundam. It bores me. I want to hear about Tengen Toppa Gurren Laagen not Gundam bloody Wing. Neo I just didn’t get into, I’m not sure why but it wasn’t that interesting for me. Total Anime however had articles in it that I did like. Things about the Anime Industry, Blogs, Things about Video Games and Anime interlinking and why opening credits matter. I like reading things like this that are about Anime as a whole. They had a great bit on how Anime is misunderstood in the Media which I loved! I’ve been writing a piece like that for Pink Domino so it was great to read what other people think. Sure Total Anime still told me about animes I already know and had a DVD listing that was full of things I’d already seen but the majority of the Magazine wasn’t about old Animes that have just come out on DVD here so they are making them seem new. It was about the Anime Industry and Culture and I liked that.
My ideal Anime Magazine? One that focused on Anime Series in Japan so we didn’t have to read about how they think the Haruhi Dance will sweep across the West NOW when it has aleady done so like A YEAR ago. I would like to read about all the new seasons anime when it came out you know. I would also like to read things about Anime Culture and the Industry. There should but a pull-out poster section, an art section and like some sort of manga running through. That would be a great Anime Magazine. Perhaps link to some Japanese Music, some JRock and Jpop. It doesn’t have to encourage people to go downloading, it doesn’t even have to mention downloading all it has to do is follow the Japanese Anime Schedual rather than the shitty UK/USA one. Then we would find these magazines fresh and exciting!
Hell. They should just let me make a Pink Domino Magazine xD Gaming, Anime and Internet Culture all at your convinience!
If you’ve answered yes to one or more of the abvoe the Ouran High School host Club is the Anime for you! I’m sure most of you have already seen this by now but if you haven’t and you plan too THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS SO MAYBE YOU SHOULDN’T READ MUCH MORE. I do warn you so don’t ever complain I don’t. Ouran Host Club does have it all though girls dressed as guys, guys dressed as girls, forbidden love twincest, and 18 year olds that look like they are 10. In short its enough to get a lot of female Otaku crazy because lets face it, we like to oggle hot anime men as much as the boys like to oggle Yoko’s boobs and Rei.
So whats OHSHC about anyway? Well in short its about Haruhi, a girl who is from a working class single parent family who joins a super duper exclusive rich kid academy on a scholarship. She looks like a boy, in jeans and shirt with short hair and glasses, a bookwork if you will. She wanders into a room one day within the Academy belonging to the Host Club, a club of hot young men who run a service entertaining and flirting with the young ladies of the academy. Suou Tamaki is the leader of the club and “prince type”. Haruhi breaks an expensive vase and becomes the clubs lackey but then they realise her talent as a natural host and she becomes the clubs newest member. As the first episode rolls they all realise she’s a girl and pledge to keep it a secret from the rest of the school (mainly for profit and because Tamaki is in love with her and is easily jealous).
I love this series. Why? FIVE VERY HOT MEN. This is why I have an unrealistic image of the perfect man in my head because Anime creates these guys would would just never exist in real life yet there is part of my head that thinks somewhere they might do. Even though the characters all have flaws they are flaws that seem to make them more attractive. For example Kyoya hides his emotions away and acts cold and indifferent but this is all an act in the end. So it all highlights the fact he is caring and stuff. No girl in their right mind would ever turn down Tamaki, Kyoya, Kaoru and Hikaru or Mori. We’d turn down Honey though unless of course you are into the LoliShota thing and like boys to look 10. I don’t, mainly because I am not a pedophile. Bar Honey the other five are charismatic, charming, funny, romantic and good looking guys. You love them in the Anime and you know if they were only real you’d love them a million times more.
Yes yes I know its sad to find anime men atrtactive but i dare you to watch Ouran High School Host Club and not want to bang at least one of those guys. Hell even the scary Bosonova-Kun who has the face that makes women run away seems hot once his sensitive side gets out and he starts blushing whenever Haruhi is near him because he loves her. I’D KICK CANS WITH YOU BOSONOVA-KUN! Those two episodes with him in made me laugh so hard.
This is what Anime does to me. I watch Anime and have an urge to be in an Anime situation. I am sure that japanese High Schools are nothing like the are in Ouran High School Host Club, Kanon, Azumanga Daioh or Lovely Complex but I can’t help but wish everytime I see a High School Anime that I went to High School in Japan. In my High School love was never confessed, mainly because the girls were all skank hos and the boys were all gangsta wannabes but in Anime love is confessed always in that sweet way where the one confession is really embaressed! I want that to happen! I want to give honmei chocolate and go to a host aclub and wear a cute sailor girl uniform with those wicked socks and have brightly coloured hair. I am not alone either. Look in your hearts, you know you want it too!
There is a point in Ouran High School Host Club where Kaoru and Hikary (hot twin brothers known as the “Devil Type” who are constantly showing their forbidden love ie twincest) are explaining to Haruhi why they are so popular within the club. Although the girls go goo-goo over their “tender” brotherly love and the affection they show each other the thing that keeps them coming back is the fact that these girls will no doubt imagine both Kaoru and Hikaru on them at once and that creates the excitment. I think they describe it as too much to handle. That’s the nice thing about this anime, I’m so used to gawking at hot Anime girls and having them be alluring that having hot alluring men is a nice change. Its not all about Big boobs and perfect asses.
Ouran High School Host Club is a gem. The characters are all funny and unique and work so well as a team. They all compliment each other so well. The storyline is addictive and once you start watching you won’t stop till the end I assure you. If you haven’t watched it yet I really do suggest you get around to it soon (:
Having got my way through Air TV and Kanon I thought it was time I tried my hand at watching Shuffle (god bless you TVlinks). I think I am developing a thing for animes that start life as Hentai games. This post that is about to be written is FULL of spoilers so if you are planning to watch Shuffle and don’t want it spoiled I suggest you DO NOT READ ANYTHING PAST THIS PARAGRAPH. Seriously.
I liked Shuffle but that is mainly because it didn’t turn out at all how I had expected it too. It revolves around a boy (Rin) who lives with his child hood friend (Kaede) after his parents and her mother are killed in a car crash when the two of them were both 8. Rin is meant to be the ideal man, well you assume he is because every girl in this series wants to get in his pants. Not only is Kaede in love with him but so is Sia (the daughter of the Lord of the Gods), Nerine (The daughter of the Lord of the Demons), Asa (an uppclassman) and Primula (A loli girl). Kaede however is the only one who has devoted her life to serving him out of Love and does everything for him. You assume this anime will end with him falling for her, the girl who loves him so dearly. Hell no.
Shuffle starts off innocent enough, to be honest it’s your typical high school romance comedy to begin with. Its only until you get really into the series things start to take a twist. I’m not sure all the girls after Rin needed to have some strange and slightly dark back story (Nerine was almost dying when she was a child and her clone called Licorice used her life to save Nerine and therefore lived in her spirit, Sia has her dead twin as her alter ego, Rin is a genetically formed human with super duper magic and Asa is part human part demon and will die if she doesnt use her magic) but it cut through the cuteness and the innocence nicely when you found each one out. But those girls are not the ones you are so shocked about when hearing of their dark backgrounds. It’s Kaedes past that really gets you.
You assume Rin will end up with Kaede because of her devotion and obvious love of him even when all her rivals start to appear you still back her because she is the one who seems purest. The rest are all a bit silly and grabby. So when you watch her meltdown as Rin goes off with Asa you can’t help but feel for this poor girl. She seriously loses it. From the start of the anime you would never picture Kaede with having this violent temper. During her meltdown we are taken to a flashback of when her mum and Rins parents died. She is in hospital and has lost the will to live and Rin tells her while she is lying in a sort of waking coma that he is the reason her mum died. He says he wrote to her mum and told her to come early and that’s why she died. He thinks telling her this will give Kaede a reason to live and that it does, she comes out of her coma and straight away tries to strangle Rin. We then see Rin move in with Kaede and her dad and Kaede making Rin’s life hell. She at one point drops a knife on his head that cuts the entire side of his face. The whole thing climaxs in her shouting at Rin in the rain that people like him should be dead.
Of course she finds a postcard from her mother in Rins room saying she will be coming home, but Rin wasn’t the one asking her home, she was coming home early because Kaede was getting ill and her dad asked her back. Kaede blames herself for her mothers death and now has the guilt of her horrific treatment of Rin on her mind too. So she convinces herself that her devotion to Rin now is to pay him back for the horrible things she has afflicted upon him and not because she loves him and wants him near her. When Asa is bought back to the house Kaede finally loses it and pushes Asa against the door causing her to have a heart failure (she is sick btw) and sends her to hospital to what seems like her death. The thing is you feel for Kaede because if Rin didn’t notice how much Kaede loved him Asa did. Asa knew that Kaede loved Rin more than anything in the world and yet she STOLE Rin from Kaede.
This anime struck a chord with me, I know it sounds a bit Emo but it did. I felt for Kaede, even though she had done terrible things I felt for the pain she was feeling when she saw Asa and Rin together and knew he wasn’t hers anymore. I think Primula was the only one who saw her pain, noone else knew it existed or that she existed for that matter of fact. She was treated like a doormat when she deserved Rin over them all. I did have one of those Emo Girl moments thinking if Rin is meant tobe like such a great guy why is he such a retard when realising he is hurting Kaede by staying in her house all that time and taking advantage of her devotion to him. It was like he took no notice of her and that pissed me off.
I reccommend Shuffle even though I’ve ruined it now for you because it really is a good watch. That and well if you don’t like the emo storyline there is enough bare breast and naked action to keep you interested. At least two good boob shots per episode xD That and all the girls in it are such hotties!
So Lucky Star has become that sort of Anime that we either love or we hate. Lets look at this for a minute. It is essentially a random sort of anime based around 4 17 year old high school girls that look about 12 thus appealing to the Loli Market which. going by 4chan, is huge at the moment. It follows the events of their lives. That’s about it. There isn’t really any ongoing story, it’s just light hearted and fun. I think the reason for the intense dislike/like of Lucky Star is a lot of Anime fans can see themselves within this anime in either the perverted Loli obsessed father of Konata or in the anime loving, manga reading, MMORPG addicted Konata herself.
Konata is really a dipiction of what a lot of people who watch Anime are. She gets obsessed about new anime and making sure she watches all the Anime. I’m sure we all all ready and waiting each time a new subbed version of our fav anime comes out on AnimeSuki or Boxtorrents and we download and watch and savour just like Konata does. She takes her MMORPG’s seriously, which I know a lot of people do. To them MMORPG’s are like real life and they take partying seriously. That and you’re friends you make via MMORPG’s are improtant too because they are in this world with you. You’d be mighty lonely without them. The fact Konata also plays Dating Sims and probably has a big ecchi collection is a reflection on nearly all Anime fans. All of us have an Ecchi collection (well all us long term anime fans do anyway, its something you aquire with time) I don’t care if people deny it, if they do they are lying. We all love a bit of Ecchi and we all love to play cute dating sims with cute anime girls. I think Anime Fans see themselves in Konata and either are annoyed by how accurate it is or rejoice in seeing a girl just like they are on screen.
I did mention that some people may see themselves in Konatas father. He got his daughter into Dating Sims. Probably plays Hentai games too. Takes photos of High School Girls and gets excited over anything to do with any girl under the age fo 18. I mean in the opening sequence he is seen perving on some High School girls from some bushes. I would like to say I don’t know any anime fans like that, but I have been on 4chan and anime-forums.com and believe you me… I do. There was one guy on Anime-Forums who was obsessed with the little girl in Love Hina and used to harass 13 year old girls on our server. Of course he got banned.
So what do I think about Lucky Star? Well it’s cute and I’m cosplaying as Kagami! What more can I say?
There will be lots going on in the next week if you’re in London. Its the JapanEx convention at the weekend and there are meetups all over London on the Friday. So you best all have your Cosplay costumes ready. Since our Image Gallery is such a success I am thinking about making a seperate Journal for it. Then other people could contribute too.
